The Membrane Sludge Separation System (MBR) is a wastewater treatment technology that combines biological purification and filtration through a membrane. It has its advantages and disadvantages.
Advantages of the MBR system:
* High cleaning quality: Thanks to membrane filtration, the MBR system provides very efficient wastewater treatment. Membranes remove even the smallest particles and microorganisms.
* Space efficiency: The MBR system makes it possible to reduce the size of treatment facilities, since it does not require the use of secondary settling tanks, and is also used with a higher dose of sludge compared to the classical biological treatment system.
* Improved control of the cleaning process: The MBR system provides more precise control over the cleaning process thanks to automatic monitoring and control systems.
* Reducing the amount of waste generated: compared to other wastewater treatment technologies, the MBR system produces less excess activated sludge, due to the higher age of the sludge.
Disadvantages of the MBR system:
* High initial investment costs: The installation of an MBR system usually requires significant initial investment, as well as periodic replacement of membrane elements.
* The need to use additional reagents: When using MBR, chemical flushes are required to restore the properties of the membranes.
* Danger to the membrane: The membrane of the MBR system is very sensitive to solid particles, so it must be carefully protected to avoid damage.
